As a field-based geologist with expertise in Geological Mapping and Structural Geology, I develop my work in the Variscan Basement rocks of Iberia. My present research interest is the Geodynamic evolution of the Lower Palaeozoic seas and the construction and collapse of the Variscan Orogen: their repercussion for the formation of the European crust. Since my doctoral formation in the University of Salamanca and in the Instituto Geológico y Minero de España, I’ve been working in the NW Iberia allochthonous terranes (Galicia-Trás-os-Montes Zone) and their relative autochthon (Central Iberian Zone) where I have improved my scientific knowledge, on Structural Geology, Tectonics (macro and micro), Stratigraphy, Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology, Geological GIS and databases, U-Pb zircon Geochronology, Sedimentology and Geochemistry (as a researcher of the public research body or as a consultant geologist working for the industry). In my current position as a post-doctoral integrated member in IDL (Instituto Dom Luiz, University of Lisbon) I’m also researching in Ossa-Morena Zone (southern Portugal), namely the tectono-metamorphic evolution and the pre- to syn-Variscan stratigraphic record. The major objectives are: a) the correlation of the Palaeozoic stratigraphic records in the different Variscan Iberian realms and their continuation in other sectors of Europe, since they belonged to the same continental margin (N-Gondwana) before the Variscan continental collision during the Lower Devonian-Upper Carboniferous; b) The dating and correlation of the tectono-metamorphic phenomena associated to Orogen building and destruction described not only in the different terranes of Iberia but also in other sectors of the Variscan belt.
