Scientific Interests

Main Interests:

As a seismologist with a background in Physics, my area of research comprises two major topics. 1) I have carried out investigations focusing on stress distribution, mantle flow dynamics, crust and upper mantle discontinuity structure variation and earthquake-magnitude distribution and their connection to seismic hazard with dense ocean island networks. This research was carried out as part of four inter-disciplinary, multi-institutional projects and two urgency grant projects. Together, they gather seismological observations at the birthplace (Mid-Atlantic Ridge) and destruction of plates (Lesser Antilles Arc) in the Atlantic, as well as Atlantic intraplate hotspots (Azores, Canary Islands and Azores). 2) I am also a team member of a multi-institutional Europe-wide project with the aim to explore the utilization of existing submarine cables to monitor the Earth and its systems, working with cable infrastructure in Portugal and Norway.
